YOUR SACRED BIRTH

Birth is a biological process with an intricate hormone flow. I deeply believe in the balance and flow of undisturbed physiological birth. We discuss this in depth during pregnancy including ways to protect your space and for me to understand your needs as much as is possible ahead of time so I do not become a hindrance to you. Births are easily and oftentimes, unintentionally, disturbed. Having deep respect for that reality will help avoid these issues.

That said, I make myself available to you once you are ready for me to join you in the space. Homebirths are incredible because it is typically where a person is most comfortable and the birth team can easily integrate into the space in a way that is not interruptive. We bring everything needed for the birth including equipment and supplies and even tools used for comfort measures.

Most people find they labor throughout their home and some people end up preferring to remain more in one domain. I have no expectations of how someone should labor as everyone labors uniquely. There are many supportive positions, comfort measures and tools that can be used to promote ease and relief as labor intensifies and progresses.

Usually we set up a tray of supplies for the birth and this is portable to anywhere you end up birthing your baby. Sometimes a baby is born right where someone envisioned and sometimes its in a completely unexpected spot!

After the birth of baby and placenta, there is a period of bonding and imprinting and often this includes a first feed. There is no rush to sever the cord until you are ready and often we save this for during the newborn exam a few hours later unless someone has plans for a lotus birth. I stay to support you for 4-6 hours after birth and during this time make sure you both are stable and transitioning normally. During this time we also clean up, start laundry, and make sure you’ve eaten something. I return the next day to check up on you or sooner, if needed.
